In the new apartment, it is easy to be Over Him. There’s a clawfoot tub, plenty of cats, and my bedroom gets amazing light, especially in the morning, a huge upgrade from my last one, which got natural light for exactly ten minutes a day, only in the late afternoon. I used to rush to sit in the sunny spot on the floor, the only time for selfies.
The street I live on now is lined with trees; wild and not-so-wild flowers are everywhere, and each morning when I leave the house, I am greeted by a parade of friendly cats. I’ve been cooking a lot more and enjoying it, feeding myself nice things like parmesan-crusted chicken with fennel and lemon, cacio e pepe, tomato sandwiches, and wild blueberries. I eat things right out of the pan, allowing hunger to return.
My fingers smell of garlic and I bathe in goat milk.
I’m brimming with gratefulness.
