There’s way, way, way, way too much out there.
And we don’t need it.
Only apparently, we kind of do.
Most people are so attached to the five TV shows they need to watch to not kill themselves that they refuse to examine their consumption. And so, we passively support things like the writers guild strike when the strike should inspire us to take a step back and ask ourselves if letting entertainment and streaming monopolies persist is really the best thing for artists, writers, and for culture.
Is this shit foundational to who we are? How big of a place do we want to give to entertainment? How much of us will we allow it to eat?
Why aren’t we embarrassed by the stranglehold entertainment has on the Western world, not sickened by the absurd amounts of money poured into producing more and more television series for one of the many streaming giants? Shit that is consumed and forgotten, little blips of “culture” that have become one of our only commonalities, all the other bridges to each other seemingly having been burned.
