A while back, my beautiful friend was seeing a ridiculous man, as these things often go. One day, the ridiculous man sent my beautiful friend a ridiculous text message:
“My therapist says I shouldn’t see you anymore.”
When she read it to me, we laughed for a long time — a man in his thirties said this for God’s sake — but I never forgot it, couldn’t isolate it away as a one-off. No, you see, this is a thing now.
