impossible indignities

Andre Masson, automatic drawing, 1925

Two weeks ago, a beloved shopkeeper was brutally murdered in Montreal, and a vigil was held. The front of the dépanneur has since been covered with flowers. Last night, my friend told me she saw a young woman stealing one of the bouquets from the pile and filming herself doing so.

Trying to get the right camera angle, brushing snow off the thieved flowers.

A proud desecration.

Everywhere I look, I see brazen acts of self-interest. Shameless declarations of indifference, or flagrant attempts at advancing one’s own agenda.
