the truth opportunists
Guido Ceronetti once noted that “our capacity for degradation is infinite”. He went on to say that if we do not act out all of the potential crimes that lie within us, our journeys will never be over.
Which, sure. That certainly rings true in certain contexts. Writing poetry, for example, requires a never-ending ego death. What concerns me is how our capacity for degradation is transformed in a hyper-capitalist world, how it is stripped of its spiritual meaning and made into a professional requirement instead of a personal act, moved away from the creative process.
