Jaques Chapiro

I was having lunch at my parent’s house the other day when my mother asked:

Sara, c’est quoi Tik Tok?

I laughed.

Rien maman, t’inquiete.

A genuine question from a woman who has never owned a cellphone.

Never even a flip phone, nothing. Just a landline and a 15-year-old laptop.

You gotta admire the dedication, the fucking resistance.

Whenever I ask her if she’d like one, she always answers the same way:

I’ve lived sixty + years without one, I’m not going to start now. Besides, your father has one, we don’t need two cell phones in the house!

She’s right.

She knows what Enough is.

This unshakeable nature of hers is why I am the way I am.

My ability to find contentment and march to my own beat is the direct result of being raised by my parents.

How do you begin to say thank you for such a gift?
