the pantomime of celebrity solidarity

As I watch more and more brave student protesters all over the globe set up encampments and demand their universities and colleges divest from Israel, I cannot help but also notice the grifters, normalizers, and careerists in the West making their way in; buzzing around, ready to exploit the situation for content.
Today I’d like to challenge the idea that celebrity support or presence at protests is beneficial to this or any other cause, as well as question the overall worth and weight of celebrity solidarity.
